Theme Logo Concept - (Please Read This Thread .)
Quote from Copywriter :
Our batch will be referred to as Kaleidoscope就是万花筒, and the campaign Colormancy.
A kaleidoscope, if you are not aware of it, is an optical instrument(something like a telescope) that displays multitudes of beautiful shapes and colors that constantly change as you rotate the scope. The link below has a sample of how a kaleidoscope looks like.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=r_UrpfqwlhI
Our rationale for this name and concept of both Kaleidoscope and Colormancy would be along the lines of how,
1) we as artists, when we look at the world, even normal mundane stuff can look colorful, artistic and creative.
2) and also, instead of just keeping the colors in the kaleidoscope, we will spread it out and animate the world. To see art as something kinetic, something that spreads and inspires.

P: i will post the progress for d logo design. (when i was free - _ -+ i think i might b fun to see it.)

A kaleidoscope is a tube of mirrors containing loose colored beads, pebbles or other small colored objects. The viewer looks in one end and light enters the other end, reflecting off the mirrors. - Wiki.
Kaleidoscope, to me, is a reflection of decorative motifs. And the logo does not translate to it's name. Maybe a change in name? Or you guys would want to step out with a different view of what we(I) usually see it as?
'Tis my two cents.

its something like a designer's breakthrough... after u break the kaleidoscope, those things will flow out, and wont be the usual patterns u see from the scope anymore.. it'll form a whole new pattern / motive , and spread out..
(something like that..)
did i get the rationale right..? >_< art directors / copywriters please help lol..

Yeah, the first post claims that the Copywriter said all that... well I did type it i admit, but I was drunk on Starbuck's Caramel Macchiato (Vente) so it is pretty simplistic and bear... i mean BARE, in explanation. Anyways, being the eager beaver that I am (LIE), I made an explanation that is both more detailed and comprehensible (hopefully). It goes like this:
Yah, I got carried away and almost made up an essay for it... so here's a shorter version.
It relates with the logo in the sense that the colors are bright and the patterns are similar in design (like a more organic, lava lamp kaleidoscope), and there is also the part where the colors are breaking free of the closed sphere. Well, i'm just the copywriter, Mr. Sijun or the Captain Director Chief Jose will gladly elaborate more on the logo, if you ask them, nicely, with sugar on top.
For our Graduation Campaign, we, the students of Batch 061, will be using the theme and concept of ‘Kaleidoscope: Colormancy’.
A kaleidoscope is nothing but a show of mirrors, beads and light, yet it enchants the most and the many of us. We believe that this simplicity and beauty reflects us as artists, because all the most wonderful things about art are neither the intricacies in its creation, nor the complexities in its messages. Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’ are just lilies in a pond, Leonardo’s ‘Mona Lisa’ is just a woman with a smile and Michelangelo’s Pieta can be any mother mourning for a son’s passing, yet it inspires in us feelings of humbling awe, and empowering infatuation. Like how the little and simple beads affect the kaleidoscope, the basic and everyday things inspire us as artists, and we in return inspire and influence them; and this is Colormancy.
What is Colormancy? If ‘kaleidoscope’ implies artists as appreciators and re-imaginers of wondrous simplicities, ‘colormancy’ is how we would describe art affecting the world surrounding us. It is a word we created to imply art as a movement that colors and animates the world, impressing and shaping creativity.
Yah, I got carried away and almost made up an essay for it... so here's a shorter version.
We imagine artists as kaleidoscopes, finding and creating colourful and wonderful things in and from simple and everyday items; like how kaleidoscopes create enchanting patterns and imageries with just a simple play of mirrors, beads and light. However we do not intend to keep these images and wonders hidden inside a closed tube like the literal kaleidoscope so we have ‘colormancy’, a word we created to describe art as a motion that colors and animates the world, and inspires creativity in others.

Just My opinion:
To say Kaleidoscope, I'd rather say it looked like a ball of focusing energies/colours... Kinda reminds me of a kind of Chine Jade Sculpture that shaped like a sphere cage, which have fancy designs/craftings engulf each other to form a sphere cage and it's empty inside. Dunno what is that called... Oh ya, it's called Chinese Puzzle Ball...

I'm not doubting your color theory rationale, lin, just that, kaleidoscope = reflection of trinkets in mirrors, and the logo is just a sphere of rainbow. Perhaps, a wrong name? Or you come up with thesis on color epidemic in sphere named kaleidoscope. It's the name that bugs me.
P.S : Sorry, don't do sugar on top. :3
Dear Pilipu, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG. It looks liek sperma, not chinese puzzle ball!

I thought it has been explained that the the logo derives from the kaleidoscope being broken and the colors escaping to color everything around it, as similar to our initial concept, the lurve bomb thing.
2) and also, instead of just keeping the colors in the kaleidoscope, we will spread it out and animate the world. To see art as something kinetic, something that spreads and inspires.
So in general we arent talking about the kaleidoscope, but more on colors escaping the kaleidoscope, and the title "kaleidoscope" is needed to explain the source of the colours, much as the "bomb" was needed to explain our love bomb concept.
Correct me if I'm wrong

You're not wrong. WE're focusing more on the 'spreading' of the wonders inside the kaleidoscope. Sharing it to the world.
People take note... this is STILL the love bomb concept.

Actually I think that the word 'Colormancy' also can be used as a logotype or sth like that. It's quite different. Pls consider that option too.
